About me
A traveler at heart, guiding at home.
Olá! I'm Edgar. Fifteen years ago I changed my life's blueprint - literally. Three and a half years into an architecture degree, I realized that a career of late nights indoors at a drawing board wasn't for me. What I loved was already all around: history, languages, and the pleasure of showing Portugal to people seeing it for the first time. So I changed course, earned my degree in Tourism Information, and became a guide. I've never looked back.
The Romanian on my language list is the one people ask about - it belongs to Diana. She left Romania and crossed several borders so that, in 2011, the two of us could finally meet in Lisbon. Love breaks frontiers. She became the love of my life, and today she is my wife and the mother of our two children, here in Portugal. Falling in love with her meant falling in love with her language too, and Romanian became my fifth.
Things that still make me smile on every tour, among many others: the look on people's faces when they discover Portuguese food - its freshness, its variety, its honest quality; the way visitors stop mid-step for the tiles and the patterned pavements; and the gardens of Sintra, where a little real magic still hides between the trees.
No matter the topic - history, wine, gastronomy, botany, national parks, museums, funny facts or Jewish heritage - you can count on me. Every tour is an opportunity to rediscover and engage my groups in the history and culture of Portugal.
When I'm not guiding, you'll find me with my family, exploring Portugal a little further, traveling, or writing about it all on wheretwogoto.com - the travel blog Diana and I keep together.
See you in Portugal!
