Miracles of Portugal: Fátima & Santarém
The sanctuary that draws millions, and the medieval town with a miracle of its own

A journey through the heart of Portugal's spiritual heritage, where history, faith and tradition come together in two of the country's most remarkable places.
After a comfortable drive from Lisbon we arrive in Fátima, one of the world's most important pilgrimage sites. Together we explore the Sanctuary, the Chapel of the Apparitions, the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary and the vast Basilica of the Holy Trinity. As we walk, I tell you the story of the three shepherd children, the apparitions of 1917, and the events that turned a quiet village into a place visited by millions every year.
After lunch at a traditional local restaurant we continue to Santarém, a medieval city on a bluff above the Tagus valley. Here we visit the Church of the Holy Miracle, home to one of the oldest Eucharistic miracles recognised by the Catholic Church, and the story that has drawn pilgrims for centuries. We walk the historic streets, and end at the Portas do Sol gardens for the view out over the river plain.
Whether you are travelling for religious reasons, are interested in history, or simply want to see an authentic side of Portugal, this day offers a rare way into the country's cultural and spiritual roots. It is a private tour, guided in your language - English, Portuguese, Spanish, Romanian or French.
